Tolkien did it masterfully. He's one of my favorite authors and I get lost in his storytelling. George R.R. Martin is the contemporary master. The world he's created is fantastic and as a writer I know I can learn a lot from his work.  I came across this interview with him and wanted to be sure you saw it.
